The drama club, the public speaking workshops, the visits to libraries and cultural places, the language competitions, the talent shows as well as the local and international performances will involve a large number of students and they will be included in the plan of extra-curriculum activities. It is also useful to mention that the Romanian curriculum contains compulsory subjects but also optional subjects (usually 1 or 2).These optional subjects are chosen by the school and they are known as School Decided Curriculum (Curriculum la Decizia Şcolii — CDŞ) and are usually extensions to the compulsory subjects. Romanian trainers who teach optional subjects create their own curriculum according to the needs of their students, in other words to what they consider useful for a harmonious development of their trainees’ personality and behaviour. Such a curriculum will also aim at getting them to acquire knowledge necessary in the modern society. Therefore, the teacher who proposes an optional subject will bear in mind the real necessities of the students. As the objectives of our project go hand in hand with the necessities of the modern student, the activities planned and prepared by the teacher will also be integrated in such classes. The curriculum will be adapted so that these optional subjects will develop students’ ability to deliver short speeches in public, to perform school plays or sketches in English or to write different types of stories, encouraging them to use their imagination. The students who don’t have very good school results but who display this ability of acquiring English easily will be encouraged to gain self-confidence and to improve their skills.

Here are some suggestions which could be integrated into the learning activities:
1. Lyrical competition: during literature's classes - when we'll learn about poems - we can apply the method CVINTET, which suppose that the children compose a poem of 5 verses(lines) thus: they have to use 1 verb, 2 nouns, 3 adjectives and 2 pronouns.
In this way, we'll find the pupils who have talent to create poems.
2. During literature's classes - when we'll learn about narratives texts - we can apply the method LEARNING BY DRAWING: the children will read a narrative text and then, they will make a symbolical drawing which could express the text's message.
In this way, we'll find the pupils who have talent to draw.
3. During literature's classes - when we'll learn about lyrical texts - we can apply THE METHOD OF THINKING HATS : pupils will create poems about different subjects thus: the red hats will compose an emotional poem, the black hats will create a sad poem, the white hats an objective poem, about reality, the yellow hats a joyful poem and the green hats a modern poem.
At the end, each group will have a spokesman who will recite the poem created.
4.During the week DIFFERENT SCHOOL (in april), we can have a Theatre workshop, where pupils will be actors - some of them will dramatize known dramatic texts, others will give the same message through the dumbshow.
In this way, we'll find the pupils who like to be actors.

Cristinel ideas: about the Cat: I see it like a talent seeker. It will travel in all countries involved in project and it will discover hidden talents. It can have a team (CC`s team - 4-5 pupils from each country, the team is also the local guide for it).
A joint product could be: a comic book with CC, CC`s song - composed by all parteners.
I see it like a symbol and a connection between partners.

“Photography - art & science”, an optional course attended by 7th grade students is creating the proper environment to expose gifted students as far as photography is concerned. Students are being guided by the drawing teacher, the father of one of our students as well as by the Physics teacher.

Romania
Mihaela Mladenovici - English Teacher
Taking into account the difficult period Romania is going through at the moment, our students’ parents are more and more aware of the fact that, if they want their children to be successful in the future or at least to lead a good life, the little ones need to be well trained and they must start develop their skills from a very early age. Moreover, they know that it is useful for them to be exposed to a wide variety of European educational systems, values and types of behaviour. This exposure will enhance their ability to adapt to new unexpected situations, will strengthen their self-confidence, teach them how to harmoniously interact with their foreign partners and will prepare them as future citizens of the European Union. The activities organised within this project aim at preparing our students in this respect. As English is an internationally used language and most importantly the language of the project, its improvement is of outmost value. Thus, the Romanian school will organize activities such as:
  • a drama club, where the teacher will help the students discover or improve their rhetorical abilities. The focus will be not only on the students who have good results at all school subjects, but also on those who lack self-confidence and find it difficult to cope with the large amount of work required at school and have poor school results. Thus, children of this latter category will he guided to find their strong points and to become better and better. Short shows will be presented both locally and internationally and thus these students will feel like real performers for a wide audience.
  • a public speaking club, where the students will be taught how to speak to an unknown audience, with a focus on the right use of arguments, but also intonation and gestures. Such practice will help them get rid of the nervousness which usually appears when you are face to face with people whose reaction you cannot anticipate.
  • Story writing activities- the teacher will guide the students to write stories in English and the best ones will be posted on the wiki or published in the school magazine. The most talented students will be involved in the joint story writing event.
Throughout this period of two years the teachers will permanently watch over their students’ progress, doing their best to help them reach a higher level of performance.

Sep. – opening ceremony - each country creates a mascot that connects with the country/area or chooses another mascot they want to take during project time - they vote at school and decide which one they want to use (it travels to all meetings and “tells” with pictures or other results what we did so far) -
first work could be: describing the mascot, it’s hobby, school, family, daily life - language teacher could do it in lang. lessons, mother tongue for younger or disabled Ss - drawing pictures, writing stories, on each taken picture is the mascot to see -
results can be taken to the first meeting in October - logo competition
Question: Do you think we should have an additional mascot (chosen by coordinators and bought for all of the countries? That means our Europe mascot is a real connection for the children during project time. (Comenia or Comenius?)

Oct. – project meeting - we know who really works and we have to change some parts at AF - first results are shown - in Hun there is the Halas lace, in Halle there is the salt, in JZ there is the coal or anything connected to coal What about other countries? Is there anything our mascot could tell the other countries? Take pictures and show the beauty of it?

Sept.

Croatia ideas:
Svjetlana and her team thougt about a modern fairy tale: Outgoing from different age groups they suggested:
create a modern fairy tale that includes healthy food and sporty life (age 10-14?)
  • some are scriptwriter, maybe the older ones
  • Croatia could prepare diferent healthy food for children, teenager and adults that fits to the fairy tale
  • chefs can show they talents in cooking, restaurant experts show there talents in table decoration (could be a competion with age group over 15)
  • jounger group draws pictures, make material to show the the fairy tale
  • create a song to the fairy tale, music talents including, dance, sewing (parents and grandparents could be invited to help)
  • invitation, performance in kindergarden, schools, elderly home residences
  • results: a book about all the different stages or a special presentation on web
I am really happy with this idea. It opens a wide field for creativity and even results can be found. Silvia

Ladies,
If we've chosen a title "Hidden talents", our project should focus on discovering talents in all our students. I can't see a connection between healthy food and discovering talents at school. Besides in Polish school any cooking is impossible.
I haven't got a ready to use idea so far but after the discussion with Sylivia and Julia, it came to my mind that we can give children cameras and mascots (stuffed toys) and ask them to take some photos. I told two girls (8& 10) what I want more or less and the results you can see at the Elmos' Adventures page.
Now we can also do something similar. However, we need to decide on mascots - should we chose the same mascot or different? Using mascots children can show our schools, town, events etc.
To make our project easy and clear, we decided to name three groups of children: 8, 12 and 15-year-old.
Younger children can take photos and make simple bubbles, "middle age" can write stories and the oldest can make a short film, or kind of a computer game.
As you can see, I focus mainly on photography, ICT, foreign languages, writing stories, diaries, poems, plays, quizes ect. The results - we can have a photo exhibition, a show, albums, books, stories on the Internet...
It is only one proposal. Could each of us present hers , we will have plenty to choose and discuss.

Julia:The final product could be the play - and a script /scenario of it, with recipies, the pattern of the costumes, scene, music, songs etc. if we follow Svjetlana's idea.
For the first year the joint product could be a mosaic made from photos taken during the year. See more details:

We find very interesting a LOGO Contest for children, and the winner design could be the symbol of our collaboration.
We have decided the main areas - school subjects, and we also find challenging to invite parents and grandparents to work with us.
Exhibition: to introduce what we have done so far and to introduce what children and their parents or grannies can create together.
We are bethinking of some 'incorporated stories' and an illustrated book. It would go as follows:
Every country launches its own story - tale, and writes 2-5 lines in English/German and mother tongue. There are 5 key-words that children should use (eg. love, when, red etc, we will decide it together), after 2 weeks every country sends the longer story to the next country via email (and make pictures to illustrate it). (In our mind there is the system, and if you like this idea, I would make it more clear.) Within four months, you would get back the story you started, and you can see what it has become. The next step is the translation into mother tongues. The story is in German/English and mother tongue, and every part is its writers' mother tongue. We have as many stories as countries but in 3 forms (Eng/Ger, mother tongue and the mix of mother tongues) Now the pictures could be sent to countries to illustrate the part you added to each story.
It is very interesting to find connections and relations among the effects of music and colours to the Maths thinking.
My collegues suggest to think of the RHYTHM as another thread or feature of our Talents project. Life is governed by rhythm, it can be found every day, area etc.
ART: repetitive patterns, rhythm of colours, shapes
Languages: march, clap, nursery rhymes, folk tales and rhymes, "Picture poems"
